Gavras’s father was a master herder. He contracted on an annual basis and worked in large merchant caravans and seasons mass herding.
Originally of the Bandit Kingdoms, the clan Almiraj. He has only a single son, by his third wife. When she was found out as an adulterer, her and her son was exiled from his presence. His body was found under his dead mothers, along a southern trade route, along with the cache of gold his father left for the boy. The merchant was the Kings own merchant, who adopted him and took him to Acriere, where Gavras gew to become a stable master – one of the top three groomsmen of the royal stable of the border kingdom of Pern and an excellent rider as well. He helped teach the kings son how to ride in fact. Over the years, the bond with the kings son grew stronger. On his 16th year, Gavras was given, title and all, a real war horse by his one time play mate, along with his own registered custom brand. During the sack of the city, the two flee and learn of the demise of the prince’s family from survivors. They are both soon caught by Black Horfinn and the prince is tortured to death and Gavras is left for dead.
Before he dies, he learns the names of the people who thought they had murdered him: Kenneth Grith, Sejanus Cerar, Julius Streng, Romulus the Edge, and Candor Red Eye – called ‘The Betrayer’.
