Bennet grew up in his father’s house with his 2 older brothers. His mother was smitten with a powerful lord of Gladnor and was abducted (with little resistance) by him when Bennet was only four. His father joined the Order of Whelm the Protector and spent most of his life away from home. When he was crippled fighting the in the north, he returned home, bringing the order with him. Bennet and his brothers were trained as knights. His oldest brother died at Northgate garrison – the news of which drove his father to drink himself to death. His older brother shut down the cloistery of Whelm and gave up the dream of knight hood, instead settling in to run the family land, marrying, and assuming the title of Sir. Bennet is provided for well by his brother; he has no titles but has spent the last two years as the unofficial co-leader (shared with Gorn, another local) of a group of locals called the Blue Troupe. Taking the old blue cloaks and tabards of the order of Whelm, they are sort of a roaming patrol. Consisting of boys 12 to 18, they rove around and perform helpful deeds and fancy themselves ‘protectors’.
