Draymian (Umbakian War Horse)
Umbak has a tradition of breeding and training of large war horses. The Draymians (also called “Flinthoofs”) are their finest breed. Each major family has their own breeding program they collaborate on with other families to keep the gene pool in shape. Each family has a center where they are raised and their initial training is done, then each steading with fighting men as special groomsmen to attend them and finish their training as they bond with an intended rider. It is not a draft horse turned into a war horse. They are bred for speed and strength, though not as much for endurance. They are trained and bonded at a young age with their rider, and considerable time and investment is made into each one. They can carry a man in plate armor, wearing armor themselves, without an issue. They will fight if commanded – though by default they are a stable platform from which to fight. They are not excitable, not scared easily, and they will not flinch from pain.
They get their name from the fact that they do not need horse shoes. The hooves have been bred over time to be white, flecked with grey. The grey is actually iron. Sometimes when their hooves strike hard surfaces, they spark.
