The ally of the party can come to their aid.
These creatures were submerged when the Nanford changed course and Scar Flow formed. They could not die easily – though many did – and over time just adapted to their new conditions. They are allies of the Druids of Pranin Moorswood nominally. She would have been watching them stumble onto the lair and watching closely what they do about it – she considers it unnatural, and she has her suspicions about both the Aboleth and Elancil’s role. She would be be able to help/heal the PCs if they get in over their heads. Its a lot of partial underwater and mud/swamp travel and encounters so they dont really have a good base of operations.
From the horrifying waters of Dwindor arises a creature that was obviously once a being of verdant green and mystical ties to the land – a dryad of lore. Swimming around her and falling off her as she rises are snails, snakes, worms, and all manner of insects abound. She stands upon an large, ugly turtle, and casually flicks her hand. A gust of wind clears the air around you, filling your nostrils with a pleasant breeze. She smiles… “I have come to you in your time of need. My people see all that transpire here, and I knw what you seek to do and what you have done. There is great beauty and bounty here in Dwindor, and I will share its power if you will partake?”
Added as result of previous Dunstrand Rising campaign events for the specific running of the adventure with the specific group.: The PCs attempts at some loyalty has made her continue sending her familiar to watch them. Since the PCs are no longer aligned with Feather, she had to rekindle her relationship with the Witch of Dwindor. She hates this, but it one of the ways to bolster her flagging influence in the region. They share intelligence now, though both are wary of each other and dont share everything.
Well, this is another fine mess. Ive had an ally watching over you, and i “heard” that you might be tangling with a direct manifestation of a divine being. Here you sit, in the shit again. Well, you dying here would be very bad, a lot of inquiries. People crawling all up in my shit and making mine and everyone else life between Richfield and Loamwold miserable. So… Im here to ensure things go smooth. I mean, sure, all of thats true if you live too… but i’d rather you keep pissing off the right people. Keeps there eyes off me sometimes.” She grins and offers a hand up.
Elancil’s image will manifest.
The entire area is filled by billowing fog, cold and smelling of salt and decay. A scream slowly builds up and the ground begins to shake. An echoing thunder, like that of a giants massive steps trigger a thunder clap with each stride fills the world around you. The pressure in your ears builds and you scream in terror and to equalize the pressure before your head explodes. A woman, with cold blue skin, green hair like kelp and eyes as blacks as the deepest depths of the sea hovers ober you. I grow weary of this you fools. You cannot even imagine the game you are pawns in, you should flee before you are sacrificed! I will set to rights the will i bent for the raising of this place. It will rise never more, and non will mourn its passing. Get thee gone and never mention what you see here. I will know your words if they are spoken on the wind. Do this, and i will let the memory of this pass as though it never existed, and my enmity with it.
[ i > DC 12 Charisma saving throw: Use the madness of Baphomet table.Smugglers! If the PCs have a notion they are being watched, after several minutes of them seeming to go away, if any PCs lag behind they will see a flaming message arrow shot southwards, towards the direction of Torrelsons Ford. They will not be able to track the two smugglers before they leave the area, hiding their tracks in the shifting Black Shore. Nor will they be able to track down who saw the arrow and where they left to – though the smugglers at Torrelson’s Ford and the faction representing Tolmans Guides will now be warned and aligned against the party in all things.
The salvager was “hired” by a [Tempest] cleric of Elancil. The salvager has tried to screw over the employer and get a better percentage and hide some goods. However, the priest has discovered it and is now making the salvager take risks and work more/harder. If the salvager is confronted, he will not say anything if it is in front of everyone and just try to cover (Deception vs. Insight).
In private, he will ask for help getting rid of this “employer” that is using the threat of Elancil, poor seas, poor weather, and just the sea queen’s wrath in general.
How about a Necromancer with some undead. As a spoiler. The trogs promised him all the bodies he would need for an army.
Following the map in the alcve to the fallen/sunken temple of Apshai, one of the Sea-Kings birthing cauls, will probably be appealing. They should do some research.
This ship will sink after a few years. Most of the crew was killed and eaten. A few managed to get away, sailing the ship into a yellow fog back. They eventually starved to death and their corpses still man the rigging and pilot the ghost ship in a parody of their former life.
Elancil and lich lords fight for volunteer boat corpses; They will send it after party.
