Cover and Obscurement

Cover employs terrain & environment features to reduce the exposure of the target; Obscurement employs material effects, and natural effects (clouds, mists, etc.) to accomplish the same. The benefits of cover are negated if the viewer can discern the real position and covering materials pose no ability to stop the attack or damage. Full cover is assumed to be relatively complete – no gaps, openings, joins or other weaknesses which can be exploited. If so, cover can be bypassed using some sort of piercing strike. Cover and obscurement both make it more difficult to hit a target, and make it easier for the target to evade and avoid effects.
