History
Chaz was a woodcutter’s son; the third in a family of 5. Chaz had little to no prospects and left home at 14 from one of the villages around Correl – the capital of Meargensdale. Chaz fell in with the wrong element and became a thug, quickly taking to the streets and one of the 2 gangs in the capital. His mother had taught him a little bit of medicine – he was responsible for his 2 younger siblings when his parents were busy, and sometimes other children his mother would care for during the day. Chaz’s girlfriend’s sister was killed – an innocent bystander in gang violence. Chaz could not take the thug life anymore and sought a job in the town watch, on the north side of the city away from his old haunts. He shrugged off the lip service to Malek (god of thieves) and tried out of the Brotherhood of Mizras but was beaten and rejected. He eventually got into the City Watch of Correl. Chaz has been with the watch for three years and is also their primary medic in the north watch – but he is seeking something more… He volunteered for every dangerous outing in order to get hazard pay. He became good friends with the watch’s captain, who taught him much about fighting. He has saved up his minor pay and purchased a sword, equipment, and horse of his own. His friends in the watch know that he was never destined to stay with them forever, and he put out the word that he was available for dangerous missions outside the city. Hearing this, Devin his watch captain summoned him and told him that he would miss him greatly. His own sons had died in their teens, and that he felt like a father figure to him and he would pledge his sword he brought back from the border wars of 30 years ago with the Merchant Cities that the Viscount had presented to him. Within a week, he was approached by a figure that he had heard of, named MayBug. He was an elven outcast of a sort, who specialized in hiring out for dangerous tasks himself. He also billed himself as a bit of a private detective and once or twice was known to help the city watch. MayBug has heard through the Warrior Brotherhood of Mizras (they apparently still keep tabs on him – thats flattering) that he was seeking bigger opportunities. MayBug had recently been contacted by a party and all he could say was that it was ‘big’ – he was unclear himself what the mission might be, but it had to do with the druids. MayBug had a reputation for eccentricity, but also of honoring every deal, and keeping every promise. He agreed to meet at Three Jacks Inn in 2 days – a group would assemble there.
