Tapethian of the Imperium

The Tapethian of the Imperium

Physiology

Tapethian

Tapethian

Terra-Norm Analog: They resemble a cross between a lizard and kangaroo.
They have four limbs, but spend most of their time on their back two much larger ones (like a kangaroo). They are about 2.3m long, and can rear up to their full height but not for long. They have a large, short (about .6m) tail that is prehensile, but clumsy. Their forelimbs are stout, but not strong naturally – developing strength and dexterity over the last several millennium.

Space-Faring

Wise and calm, they have a developed fleet of star ships for gaining and controlling resources, and many have ventured outside their home system, but are not an expansionist species. They inhabit 2 planets and 2 moons in their solar system, but go no farther. This is probably tied to their “faith”.

Tapethian Faith

These people are elemental animists and considered strange and unnatural by the Imperium. The power of water – Ush – is the highest for them. Their powers seem to weaken outside their solar system, but never truly vanish. They believe in a great cosmic river that runs between the stars – Nar-Ushur; It embodies energy, cycles, and their flow through space and time. It brings change, and sometimes eddies into stillness. On it all creatures are borne along their path.

Graven Glyph: Between 3 and 5 all members of their community “take the glyph”. Only on their home world of Hekreif is found the ‘diamond ice’. A piece of which has been taken to each newly settled colony. This focuses the light of their star Ephruuma, making a blue mark on them where the light entered, and where it marks every bone, internal organ, and skin on a straight line through them, infusing them with the power for which they are known.

Funerary Rites: Water strips the flesh clear, the bones are bundled in sacred ribbons inscribed with their words. The bones are sunk into the sacred Well of Souls upon whatever world/moon they came from – laid to rest in the deepest of waters.
