Tulin’s Squad

Steel Realms

This band is part of more recent histories, and directly associated with The Sickness of Braddon Bog.

Tulin’s Squad was a mercenary group out of Umbak that was headed by a Ducateon Outcast and famous for Tulin’s Blade – the sword he wielded. They formed in CY 9093 when Tulin was ejected from the varstock Holt in Dunstrand. No one knows his past for sure, but the rumors go that he served as a blacksmith for a dozen years in Fandelok before taking up the blade in search of coin instead of repairing the blade of those that did it. The stories tell of how it took many years for him to make a name for himself, there were successes and failures. Tulin drifted through the heartlands, one failure adding up after another until he nearly drank himself to death had it not been for a priest of Ikribu. While Tulin was not a religious individual, he was superstitious… he had been given a sign. He gave up his drinking and instead began to seek out others to from a band of mercenaries. In his quest for work in Umbak (for he wanted to be close to the god for saving him) he bore many an insult and got the name Tulin Shovelnose (because it was broken so many times) – but also a viscous swordsman.

During his travel he picked up the another Ducateon – Barg Brekkon – swordsman and a sullen hard drinking sot. Phil West – an archer. Then came Carton Bailey – a scout, and Corey Dornier – thief and scoundrel. This ragtag lot he called Tulin’s Squad. They were hired by the Umbakians for over a decade before being called to serve the Umbakians during the Civil War of bar-Innis. Originally they were hired to keep the road to Braddon Bog open from Bergen – a crucial supply line in CY 9162. The last anyone heard of them was that they had been hired by the church of Balthazaar to explore some ruins in pursuit of something precious which had gone missing from one of its churches. They were said to be headed to a place near Braddon-Bog. Though on a holy mission, they were never heard from again.
