The Surefoot Merchant Coster is a mercantile organization that has reach into much of the trade in The Riverdans. It pre-dates the changing of the Nanford Rivers’ course, and was originally set up to provide a unified front of the Riverdans to other territories of Dunstrand. With the rise Cerran’s Grant and the Twin River Council, it has gradually lost power and influence. People see it as a bygone relic of days long past when the Riverdans controlled the trade routes across the Nanford and their culture was strong. They try and persist old agreements that had them a place on local councils and at least a watcher along main travel passages and trade stops. They are portrayed by competitors of their services and old charges as “meddlers” and “relics”, a sad reflection of a sad people trying to hold onto their sad old ways – i.e. how most of the Riverdans are seen (at least by outsiders).
They were once seen as having a noble purpose, a supporter of the culture, sovereignty, and individualism of the Riverdans. They had representatives in every capital of the Riverdans, and every passage across the Nanford River. Rumors have it that their efforts are the origins of the League of the White Lily.
