Mev – Capital Grounds of Bar-Innis

Steel Realms
Mev is a small fief and the capital (Mev Na-Innis) of the Earldom of Bar-Innis in the west of the Grand Duchy of Dunstrand. The capital sits on a small rise, north of Deer Flower Stream – now a major run-off channel which swells in the wet months. It is a gathering place, a massive market, a place of festivals and contests. Once the Westmarch sank in great cataclysm (replaced by Scar Flow and Dwindor Swamp), the old western seat of rulership was lost. The ‘Seat of Power’ in the west of Dusntrand Vale proper was given over to the Seat Na’Innis.

Population 49,900 (including the heart of the grounds)

Rulership: Mayor; 4 districts with “Lt. Mayors” (juniors/subordinates)

  • Market District – Trade, stores and services, large travel accommodations, and many larger institutional presences are here.
  • High District – Nobility/titled families, high end stores and services.
  • Grass District – Many commoners live here, there are many shrines to faith’s here, including a Briarwood. Lost of fields are reserved here for pageants and celebrations.
  • Westgate District – An old gatehouse that serves as a fortification for the earl is also the home of many mercenaries, the slums, and home of many small folk/commoners. It is a ‘Bell District’ – if a bell rings, everyone is supposed to seek safety indoors, clear streets, and cease all activity – it is curfew is in effect.
  • Deer Loop – This is the double lane road on the outside of the old broken wall that marks the formal Mev Na-Innis city grounds. It is also a ‘Bell District’

Defenses: 140 Town Watch in a fortified barracks toward the center, 1 jail in each district and 30 more watch in each. Another 20 senior watchmen in Westgate district.
> The earl’s formal ‘standing army’ is in the center of the Deer Loop.
