Once this area was dry, but changes in the land long ago turned the land into a misty moor. The bog smells clean, but is covered in fog and heavy mist that roams across its landscape day and night. Redgate Castle was abandoned long ago, and over the centuries has come to be known locally as a fell place. It is said that the dead once buried there walk and wait for the living to return. Several adventurous bands have vanished in pursuit of the treasures that rumors have expounded upon over time. There are many potential perils in the moors, though they are only a giant sunken depression about 15 square miles constantly covered in fog.
Since Redgate collapsed, many adventurers or lords have come seeking to conquer the lands of the highmoors. They have all been repulsed – weather, Orrish, and the walking dead haunt the lands. The Orrish presence has increased in the last hundred years and raiding in Cabella has increased. West River Run claims control of the region (or at least for taxation purposes), and mines some coal and iron at the edges of the hills – polluting the streams in the process. It is theorized that the dead walkers are replenished by the ranks of the Orrish, for the locals avoid the area purposefully. Repeated attempts to log in the foothills of some of the older growth have generated a lot of hostility in the Chauvelah elves – who consider the area cursed by the gods and never venture in the moors. Were it not for a small bit of peat, logging, iron and coal, West River Run would abandon Cabella and her ducal charge of defense entirely and let the roads and places rot or be captured by the Merchant Cities.
Blight Gas is heavy and thick. The mist is infused with Blight Gas – it strangles the living and animates their corpses.
