Mercat (common trade language of the Steel Realms)

Maximum Level of Learning is ‘Fluent‘.

Pronounced “mur-kat” – One of the languages of the Steel Realms.

Mercat is the mercantile language; it is a combination of a few gestures and hand signs with verbal communication. Oration is not possible, it’s intent is to communicate basic ideas and counting across all species and locales.

Adosian Script: a.k.a. “The Adosian Flourish”; The denizens of Ados, in an attempt to be recognized as a Merchant City (of the south) and gain access to its Bank, adopted Mercat as an official language of Goods and Services. All labels are in Gladnorian and Mercat, but all trade records are also in Mercat, like the Merchant Cities. They are known to apply a specific artful flourish to all their tags and record headings – one that is distinct and borrows from some Gladnorian elements to indicate their “superlative” source of goods. There are somewhat sinister overtones to it as well, as the Necromancers of Ados in the Halls of the Hanging Dead have also adopted it – it is unknown if it was in jest, but no one makes demands of their brotherhood. All their “goods” are tagged with it – including corpses and animations.

History of Mercat

It was invented by the peoples of the Merchant Cities and combines ancient and newer ideas to express common ideas in order to facilitate trade.
