North Richfield

Steel Realms

A region of the Earldom of Richfield. In the north end of the Scar Flow the tides “run strange” as the local custom labels them. A lot of run off from the mountains and hills causes swift moving flows through Dwindor Swamp in the area… though the far NW edge of Richfield is gravel shores and fairly stable for fishermen.

Places

Blood Hawk Inn/Hawk Blood Inn

This is the bastion of the north; rough population of about 1,000 + surrounding hill valley farms and the mining camps. The inn itself is actually a small fortified keep. It contains the large inn proper, 2 empty towers, and a mostly empty garrison for the House Guard. The Inn is 3 stories and made up of several building which have been “connected” together; the lower being drinking and entertaining, the mid being merchant and better quarters with meeting room on the far east plus a large balcony overlooking the bawdy room below, and the west and upper being common rooms and storage. There are a few tin and copper mines in the hills, plus peat cutting, sheep, thatch/grass, and a goodly sized forge for hire. Most of the time the House Guard of Richfield has a presence here and mercenaries. The area to the north – the Blood Hawk Hills (named for the blood-drinking hawks; 3 main peaks and lots of minor ones) are contested by West River Run – but the terrain and defense is easily accomplished better from the south – and so Richfield holds on to the area which includes a dangerous “trail” which leads to the Tarmysian Peninsula. The local Bloodhawk Ale is also famous throughout Dunstrand.

Forces/The Law: The constabulary has 5 officers lead by a Sgt., and there is a local militia funded by merchants and the city taxes of about 12-14 at any given time which assist them + part time volunteers. There is a small garrison which can hold twenty plus logistics (double on active rotation), staffed by 3 support staff (to look after it while soldiers do not occupy it). This is where the Earl keeps his own horses in the north.

Marvencol

Small town nestled in foothills. Pop 650 – trade town on the rough trail into the hills to West River Run. Its about 8 hours from Hawks Blood Inn. There is a pass through the hills at about 500 feet, a narrow pass good for travelers but not an army. Marvencol has an unmanned garrison which can be used in times of war if needed.

Garnet Hill

About 4 hours away, in between Marvencol and the Hawks Blood Inn, is the small village of Garnet Hill. A population of about 140 people, nestled in the foothills and its notoriety from the cheap garnets that litter the glacial carved hillsides on rocks and streams nearby. Sheep farming is also popular.

The village is set amidst low hills with pastures for sheep and some grapes/wine. There is a small local trade in garnets – about 10-20 members of the populace braving the wilds and perils of the terrain to gather garnets in the spring and summer in family “ranges” staked for generations. The stones are rough and cheap, but provide at least a small trading opportunity.

Tammer (abandoned)

This land has been given up on, but it once held a village and full size church of Aerna. Most of the time its a flooded plain. Folks now refer to it as “Backwater Top” because the tops of some structures are still visible above the often murky swamp flooded area.
