There was great conflict amongst the Grey Gods for supremacy of the control of their pathway forward. In the years of Dominion, Malek and Elancil were gaming in a game of wits. Elancil wanted to open and see what is in Malek’s mysterious Box of Secrets. She pestered to make it a reward for her winning many times but Malek would sigh and said no. Finally, she relented, but asked to just see it – for in reality it was rumor only, even amongst the gods. He brought it out and presented it. Elancil’s breath was taken away, quite literally, and she struck the box in fear and anger. The box tumbled and broke open, and so the secrets were spilled. Elancil gathered as many as she could as she fled while Malek did nothing, such was his surprise.
Malek let this happen, it began a chain of events that he knew would take thousands of years to play out, but that would ultimately set him free from his binding to Helca.
