Although Rockholm was known to have fallen and been desecrated, the enemies never reached the place referred to as “Deep Nest”. The ancient home of the of House of Maphazel dragons, drawn to the rich copper vein running from the surface to the deep area. At some point the Ducateon encountered them in their mining, and made a pact with them of mutual aid. Little is known about the specifics of this, and the Ducateon yet keep an underground garrison along the Gurtan Tunnel-Ways from the lair to the top of the mountains. The dragons rarely venture forth, and are not believed to be dreaming at all – the Ducateon keep a continuous flow of information coming to them as part of their deal, this is all that is known.
The tunnels were cut by the Ducateon as part of a major highway like system from east to west. Only the High tunnel location is known by any surface dwellers, though more are suspected. Since the alliance, the dragons can extend their awareness down these tunnel. In CY 2531, the dreams of the matriarch prowled the ways, eliminating every non Ducateon in the mid and lower tunnels. She created a spur from their lair into the low tunnel as well.
