Richfield, Barony of Dunstrand

Steel Realms

The Richfield Baronial Territory/Earldom is the poorest of the Territories and Fiefdoms of The Grand Duchy of Dunstrand. It is founded amidst swamp and runoff flood plains and hills – the isolated remnants of the area after The Sundering in CY 5000. Though fertile, the environment and terrain prohibit a high stable population or industry. Channels of murky water cut through the western lands, providing easy but slow travel, and a means of accessing the swamp for a long journey south to the ports in Loamwold for the few goods and travelers that pass through here. Only small communities of fishermen (often referred to as “barge-rats”) live near the Black Shore, and the village life is difficult for the majority of their beds and structures need to float to survive the rains and tides. When dealing over long distances and with other fiefs and large institutions, the rulers look to Silver Lining Lenders; This organization is also present for all manner of individual and small business services.

Dunstrand Rising Living World CHRONICLE > Dunstrand Rising is a Living World campaign set in Grand Duchy of Dunstrand in the Steel Realms of the [Fantasy] Steel Realms Setting (planet of Helca).

The territory was once a contested baronial territory, self proclaimed Earldom. Now it is an acknowledged Earldom by the ducal authorities after the Civil War of Bar-Innis.

Culture/Society

Richfield is not wealthy but is homogenous. The local identify with their Riverdan ancestry more than their neighbors to the north – West River county. The same gods, festivals, and values of family, clan and culture as the Riverdans hold are dominant in Richfield. Southern Richfield has some immigrants and settlers from Bar-Innis, bringing a slightly different, more independent and modern culture but still friendly and compatible… with connections to money and trade there.

Current Rulership

Rulership: Danic Richfield IV. Had only a sickly daughter (Mary) as his only heir, but remarried and sired a son – Oliver. Both children are strong, and Mary has no inclination towards marriage – she prefers to study and swears she will join the White Sisters when she is 30. Oliver joined a knightly order when he was made a knight at 17. His father died 3 years later at age 57 and he came home to claim his title.
