Stone Cutter

Steel Realms
Stone Cutter – The Wall Breaker, The Tunnel Tearer… it is known by several names.

Value: ? silver crowns

Location: Hall of Heroes

Forged by Ducateons and men together in the early days of dominion, it was said to be made so that no leader would think they are absolutely safe. It was broken by one of the Lich Lords, and re-forged in fires not of this world, made even stronger. No wall, battlement, gate, keep, or tower has ever withstood it. Terrifying is its presence – like an angry beast it is said. Taming its power is said to have been a task that many have failed at, dying in the attempt.

Perhaps the most prolific and legendary of all weapons of the realms is Stone Cutter. Once the property of the hero Rothir (Jrothmir, Wrothir) The Bold of Pomata, the broadsword called Stone Cutter was unbreakable, and its wielder seemingly invincible. The hero was able to tear asunder the walls of Altair and rescue his bride from the evil clutches of Wehtsaq, called King of Ghouls. The sword has shed the blood of thousands and toppled kings. The sword is as old as some of the most ancient manuscripts known, its exact age is not known nor its exact purpose. It has been a symbol of the Heroes of the Realms for time immemorial.

The sword was broken when the Lich Lords entered the High King’s citadel and the whole gatehouse collapsed upon it. It was being wielded by the captain of the Black Dragons, defending the west gate against their assault. When it broke, a clear note of snapping metal was heard the length and breadth of the realms, and all were disheartened, for that which could not be broken, had been. Stories speak of how the Lich Lords recovered a jagged shard of the broken blade and took it north when they retreated. It has since been reforged by the Dwarven King himself, but subsequently stolen en route to the Hall of Heroes. It was recovered from somewhere in the south by the Patrician Knights of Aerna. They recorded that the blade had a mind of its own, and could not be tamed by them. Since then, it has sat unused, gathering dust within the Hall of Heroes… though rumors also say it was stolen or taken by parties unknown in 8904.
