Bank of the Silver Stacks

Steel Realms

The Bank of the Silver Stacks is backed and run by the Merchant Prinzes of the North Merchant Cities and South Merchant Cities. It guarantees transactions and to have the wealth needed to cash any transaction affirmed and approved – no matter how big. There is an office in almost every major city in the Heartlands. Umbak, notably, does not allow the presence of any representative of this institution within its borders. It does not provide services to individuals except those with extensive wealth – titled lords and ladies. Its primary audience is fiefdoms, kingdoms, nations, trade cartels, merchants houses, religious and social institutions, etc. Adventurer types are not considered good marks. The typical condition for non-landed, non-business clients is that they must have a beneficiary designated but that the bank gets 10% of the total wealth in processing fee.

Safeguards and Defenses: The Silver Talents are the primary transport guards of the Bank of the Silver Stacks – a nice parallel between the names being entirely coincidental. The bank leverages their station to move their wares and personnel unimpeded. For this connection, the primary bankers on these journeys are 2nd and third born nobles – a charge that elevates the position and aligns with the charter of the Silver Talents. The bank is also known to have a compliment of magi providing guards for their vaults and transport. They are known to employ members of the Halas Blaze School as mercenaries in many instances – it seems there is a preferential relationship here.

The banks reputation generally prohibits small locale interactions or interactions with “freebooters and adventurers”. Local criminal enterprises are involved in currency, trade, items of all kinds, even local banking (money keeping/lending) and in some cases controlling crafters and their goods and/or means of production.
