Wampanoak (Numinous Weasel great spirit)

Steel Realms
Numinous Weasel Spirit “The Mystic Weasel”; Invoked mostly as: Collector, Finder

The cult itself is almost totally obscure. It has almost no presence outside the Merchant Cities, Ados, and some recognition in the Pine Tribes of the north, what little presence it does have is simple and crude. It is thought that long ago, a particularly pious yet dim-witted tribesman from the north made his way south, as a thief and rogue, enjoying a particularly successful career as he went. The fact that the “spirit of the weasel” is named Wampanoak, thought to be a corruption of one of the northern tribes peoples name of Wampenoag, points to some cultural influence.

In reality, there seems to be few who take this cult seriously – even its own members if the tales and known facts are true. The cult itself holds no secrets and has never tried to hide its precepts or ideas. “They” say that “The Weasel Way” is a life choice that brings fortune and ease to those who pursue it. It is said by some that the somewhat ridiculous trappings hide symbols and meanings to those initiated into the cult.

It is said the Wampanoak, “the spirit of the weasel” taught the first followers “The Weasel Way”. It is said that this follower, Giv M’shiny was wandering in the woods seeking sustenance,
and came upon a burning mulberry bush. This bush called to him, and taught him the way, and fed him well with small shiny gem-like berries that restored is vigor and stamina and allowed him to find his way back out of the deep woods.
He passed his secrets on to others and the cult grew.

  • Never go into a badger sett
  • Never bite another weasel in the face
  • Dont chase your own tail
  • Beware the shiny, but the weasel with the most wins

Rewards

The collection of shiny’s pleases the Mystic Weasel – it is this that he rewards blessings to!

Origins

The common knowledge states most of what is really known. In fact it was a pine tribesman named Tetwaken who was very dedicated to his craft and in fact has a fondness for ferrets, weasels, and such and taught them to assist him with thefts.
He chose to venerate the weasel as his patron – a small archetypal power of little note. But venerate he did, and he taught a simple “way” to his followers to gain blessings from the divine archetype.

There are almost no known places sanctuary for this cult. It is said that there exists some minor shrine to it in the hearts of the slums of Ados, where a small but loyal following continue
to worship. Otherwise, followers are few and far between – found only alone or in pairs elsewhere.
