Commander Heatherguard (Lich Lord general)

Steel Realms

Legendary warden of Heather Reach in the east. The Lord was once a proud and mighty general in service to the northern king of Dundaria. Lord Heatherguard is the most powerful of the ghoul army – the Druzd – left over from the original conquering of the north. He took his oath to the Lich Lords in the old capital – Odekrick, rather than at the Fortress Druuzd in the far north reaches. That he is undead is not disputed, that he is anything like any other undead is certainly not the case. Though they have never clashed in battle directly, Lord Heatherguard is the sworn foe of Lord Theodrose, the spectre lord of the north, and once a general amidst the Lich Lord’s army like him.

This lord commands the southern entry into Dundaria from The Valley of Sighs, and still “lords over” the Heather Reach.

He is a deeply devoted follower of Djerduth and his inheritors – the Lich Lords. Although nominally a “general” in the Lich Lords army, it is widely understood that they also fear him most of all their minions. He is of ancient blood, related to the nobility of the north that they completely eradicated and over the ages he’s made several boasts that he alone is it’s rightful inheritor, not the usurper “lords”. He also commands the loyalty of many lesser Druzd, the largest contingent, all fanatically loyal to him in death as they were in life – to him more than the “lich lords” whole rule the fallen kingdom. Many claim that his time in the Valley of Sighs has given him powers beyond normal.

Little is known of the exact circumstances of his death, just that he WAS the last Lord of Heatherguard. He alone is known to keep his word of honor, for there exist several tales from adventurers over the millennium which have attempted the Heroes Ride, encountering him in their path… his hatred of the Orrish seems to burn brighter than his hatred for the living in general and a few have been spared if they survive contents of combat, to go on to make their attempt.
