The Unknown/Secret Origins of the Lich Lords of Dundaria

Steel Realms

The entire origins of the Lich Lords, who they were, how they came to be, has been eradicated from all history and memory. It is not known how the Lich Lords managed this, only that there is no mention in recorded annals and those who were alive at the time forgot – as if their very presence in history had been murdered and was dead.

All the following is Obscure Knowledge / Near-Impossible Difficulty

Note: Secret Knowledge is information not available in any known references; It is not necessarily Forbidden Knowledge.

The Lich Lords were minor lordlings along the northern and western edge of the old northern kingdom of Dundaria – which became the Fallen North/Lichrya. Vastly different in temperament and looks, each believed they were due more than the meager frontier lands they stood to inherit, and desired power to the extent that it would corrupt them. They wished to rule forever each in their own ‘perfect domains’. They were brought together by Zoras, a magi of some power who kept his own identity secret, even from those he enlisted in the cabal.

The creatures, heady with the death god’s stolen power, marched south, without escort or shelter. It is not known who they may have encountered on the way – any witnesses were killed. They went to the capital Odekrick to reveal themselves and show their power to lay claim to their legacy. The king and nobles laughed as they made their proclamations. Their wrath exploded and death raged outward from the capital. Vortex’s spewing salt and toxic fumes raged through the city and would slowly spread out, bringing death everywhere.

[an oath and sacrifice – the echoing pledge of the king]

The northern winds blew down the pine forests, and brought snow and ice and a wind that would strip flesh from bones. It collided with the vortices and a battle of mighty magics raged. It transformed both effects. The Fangedfrost began to creep out from the capital, driving all living things before it. What is understood is that the biting Fangedfrost of eternal winter did not seem to be what the Lich Lords themselves expected.
