Pony’s Voyage

CY 9-11-9168 Pony, one of the few members of the Gallants to leave the band outside of the process of death, took sail to his home in the kingdom of Forlad on the continent of Sayvalod. His intent was to set up and record his journey and begin correspondence with the keepers of the Companion Library of the Gallants. A great calamity has struck the continent. The devastation is said to be horrible. At sea, the massive Volcano of Whelm’s Furnace erupted and a ton of ash went east towards Sayvalod. There were other eruptions he found out, a terrible series of quakes and tsunamis. At sea, within sight of the peaks on the shores of Sayvalod, his ship was broken. The crew tried to ride the wave, but it was too great. It is half-submerged, end sticking up and taking on water. Slowly sinking for days though he and a couple other survivors try desperately to patch the ship and prevent more water from flooding in. After a week, it’s obvious that it’s simply not going to work. Just when they begin to say their prayers, there’s a sail on the horizon. A capital ship, broken and limping, with only one of its mast unbroken, gathers the survivors and what remains of their cargo. It will take 4 months and all their supplies for the ships. The ship is a capital ship, a diplomatic ship of Forlad itself, bringing diplomats and tribute from the far land to the High King. Pony learns that for decades tribute has slowed. Wars and disasters have rocked Sayvalod outside of Forlad. The ship manages to limp into Karolak of the northern Merchant Cities. Paulson, senior herald of the King of Forlad, announces his decision to sell the ship, take the tribute, and travel with his retinue to Oerdney seeking refuge. He is a nephew of the King of Forlad, and until word comes to him, he plans to announce his ascension to the throne-in-waiting. He will ask the High King for assistance in returning to his lands and rebuilding. He also says he will pay for Pony’s journey home if he wishes – he recognizes Pony’s potential contribution of knowledge to rebuilding. Pony must make a decision…

Ulrich’s Dream of Treasure

Following the Vision: Ulrich, despondent over the loss of his companions, keeps having recurring dreams of a glittering horde of treasure. The ‘generous gift’ the Whisperer of Secrets gave for The Tidewatchers ‘donating’ 4 bodies to the tree’s hanging victims – Hendrhak’s desire. The dreams are the same – a cold wind blowing on the edge of the black shore… shivering you to your core. Whispers during the day urge him to ‘follow his visions’. Having nothing else to do yet, Ulrich packs his bags and heads north, across the river and along the black shore. Once there, he heads for the shoreline – hoping to match his visions with a physical sight. He walks west until the water of Scar Flow is visible, then north along The Black Shore. He camps a day out, exhausted. There he has dreams… a Vision. The vision lead him through reeds and silt, pushing ever farther along the dangerous edge of the ancient shifting shore. A brutal day’s walk and you are seeing the mist shrouded peaks of Scar Flow to the west. Like a distant beacon, a strange light can be seen far away. Once you stop, and know the horde is due west, you realize you will need a boat. He realizes he is tired, and storm clouds in the distance reflects his troubled mind.

Goodbye From Elancil?: Ulrich continues to hear whispers in dark and light both. But then, a cold breeze comes from the east. From the sea. “I’ve watched your lot, those who came before you were certainly your betters. And they are all dead. You think you’re going to fill their place? No one trusts you. At least the last few groups have actually fought in the war… but they have taken you out of that. Can’t risk a public relations nightmare of you all dying in a real battle – but the time for martyrdom is gone now. Sad times have fallen on the Gallantine, third and fourth string being put forward as the next ‘heroes’. Well, the eye of the storm will probably wander if this is all you’ve got. You were once worthy foes, bid your companions farewell.”

Mapping the Way: It takes 3 days to return he is so exhausted. Once back, he goes to docks to talk to sailors and describes his visions… paying several silver for silence and his last for a crude map based on his visions. It seems it is one of the tallest peaks in Scar Flow where he is headed. Ulrich returns CY 9-19-9168…

Common Year 9-20-9168 The Betrothal of Ulrich to Penny Marshal is announced! In Riverdan tradition, he has been asked to take the last name of the bride. Ulrich hears more whispers… mocking him.
