Mercenary
Tallard was only 12 when he was witness to his first miracle. The village he grew up in was attacked at night by Orrish marauders. He saw the priest Porthias defend the church that villagers had fled to and slay four goblins, change shape and slay 5 more before being slain by arrows. When the Orrish massed to attack, his body rose once more and charged into their midst. Despite being struck another half dozen times with arrows, and several life-ending blows from his enemies, he drove them back. Tallard ran to his side and picked up a goblin shield, defending the risen priest until the Orrish were turned back. The bloody visage of Portias turned to him and with blind eyes reached out to present his own mace to the astounded Tallard. He took the mace and the body of Porthias collapsed. He was indoctrinated into the faith of Rastur that week, and has followed it since. The priesthood has used him as a celebrity since then. After a few years though, the novelty died and as he aged, the once-inspired faith began to wear thin. He made a choice and left the “traveling sideshow” (as he saw it), stealing money he felt owed and making his escape. He followed a mountain lion he spied at the edge of the fire near the text. The lion lead him through the hills and into the plain beyond. He has spent many years on the road since, serving as a mercenary in county Faer. His faith has not faltered, though his love of the clergy certainly has. He keeps a low profile for now, and has managed to avoid entanglements with the green church clergy. He has followed the story of the bandits harassing the area in the south of Bar-Innis for months now, and has decided that Rastur is testing his courage as all other attempts have failed. He has gone to Mev and hired a guide to help him, a gritty Shalfling named Weehawk. Together they plan on tracking the bandits and splitting the reward.

Half orc (half human)
Raised by the church of Aerna, he never knew his past. His mother was killed in service to the church when he was 3. He has anger towards the church, and has an idealized vision of his mother (not his real mother – he was a foundling). He ran away from the convent when he was 12. He discovered that few would accept him and learned to live off the land, eventually making his way to ___ – land of the halflings. They accepted him and so he lived with them and defended their lands against
umbakian raids. He is friends with Weehawk, but city life and drink sabotaged that friendship. He was hired by a man named Jack, and paid a generous sum to provide muscle for a group of bandits. Now he is rich, but suffering from a guilty conscience. He has robbed many, but refused to kill innocents in cold blood. After the last kidnapping deal wherein a daughter was killed after the money gotten, he has had second thoughts about his job.

Bochrick / Ducateon
Diplomat.
Sent south to Umbak with a shipment of high quality alloy steel for a Umbakian noble family. Along the way he and his fist escort were attacked multiple times. Wounded, they were finally overwhelmed when they turned back and sought refuge in Fort Harvina??? They were attacked in broad daylight by several large men acting strangely. Bochrick could not make out just what was so strange, but he was the only one to survive the attack. For two years he was held while the brigands attempted to get some ransom. He got the sense he may have even been ‘sold’ to another party, as he was transferred out of a place of solid control to some cave in hilly terrain. After what seemed like a few months, his captors arrived at the same conclusion – that no ransom would be paid. They left him to die and blocked up the cavern. Without being monitored, it took 2 days to free himself from the manacles and another half day to get through the blockage. He set off randomly, not knowing where he was at. Eventually he ran into a halfling village where he collapsed. He was nursed back to health by the halflings, with whom he stayed for a month. His experience had impacted him more than he realized, for he no longer felt at home anywhere. As he traveled closer and closer to home, living on the generosity of humans, he began to realize that home was not going to be home any more. He did return, and present himself to the clan chief. His tale was recorded and he was absolved of all blame and he was asked to take up his post again, though this time tagging goods in the human tongue underground as they were prepared to leave the holt. Several weeks of this left him bored and feelings of anxiety began to grow. Several times he asked for a transfer to the outholt above the ground, but was denied. Finally, at his wits end he spoke to the priests who told him that he must assimilate or leave the clan. Breaking all ties, he chose to leave the clan. The priests ordained that the path He had set out for him lay outside the places of his own people. Stripped of his torc and caste, he was sent into exile to the lands of light. He was given coins, and rudimentary supplies and weapons. For while he served as a translator and appraiser of Ducateon goods to the humans in Dunstrand City – but the constant exposure to his brethren made him uncomfortable. He fled west, to the sea and away from likely places of his own kind. In Mev, the capital of Bar-Innis, he found employment as bodyguard for a merchant. Originally he had intended to assist the merchant with his bargaining skills, but there must have been some miscommunication because he ended up as a bodyguard. The troupe set off for Loamwold to do some trading with the halflings, and was ambushed by the gang of the bandit Redgerd. Once again, he was the only survivor. In a strange train of events, the bandits were attacked as they themselves were nearly done slaughtering the merchant caravan. One group from the east and another from the west set upon them at the same time. Bochrick, wounded, stayed hidden until the battle ended. At one point, it looks as though the pair attacking from the east would be killed until the halfling amongst them recognized a friend amongst the bandits. This friendship was stronger than the bandits, for the large beastial creature laid into the bandits that he once rode with, catching them by surprise. The other group, to the west, made swift work of the rest of the bandits but quickly subdued the half orc which had betrayed the bandits. The two groups argued, and Bochrick came out of his hiding place. He sensed that his skills as a diplomat could finally be put to use and stave off the impending violent conflict brewing between each side.
