Soul Bonded with Soul Tree

D20 Flora Bound

A level of the Warlock class (can be no higher than 1st level). This is a Binding to the Elven Soul Trees. Elves may not take a Warlock Patron other than the Soul Tree without becoming broken Faey first (which strips them of their Warlock levels for the Soul Tree patron). There is a limit of 2nd level that the character can achieve with this connection, and their other life experience (class level) must be higher. Treat the Warlock Patron as Fey.

  • Allows the use of the Faerie/Elven Living Weapons anywhere on Helca.

Cultural Experience

Posted on May 28, 2021 in D20 iCore

Cultural Experience is considered beyond core considerations. The mechanics or power represent a level of complexity that may slow the game, increase record keeping, or may even conflict with other rules. It is entirely up to the Game Master to include/allow these or not.

A character can realistically be just about any background and race allowed by the rules, limited by geolocation availability and/or cultural norms. However, many places have a society that produces a preponderance of a specific outlook and qualities that reflect an archetype or stereotype. Adopting this confers some small advantages, excludes some backgrounds and alters others – including characteristics, values and behaviors. It may also impose stat adjustments. The experience can help to inform the Character Stories and roleplaying opportunism during the game. Cultural Experience (and any benefits) can only be taken at the time of character creation – it assumes that the character was immersed in the culture as they were raised. A cultural experience will include one or more of the following (determined by the setting and culture):

D20 Cultural Experience

Aptitude Affinity: The character has specific Aptitude which may be purchased with Essence at a decreased cost.

Ability Affinity: The character’s experience grants them a bonus or penalty (no more than +1 or -1).

Ability Emphasis: The character’s experience grants them a bonus or penalty (no more than +1 or -1) on checks for a specific Ability.

Cultural Faith: Some cultures have a faith that is deeply imbedded and informs traditions, beliefs and behaviors core to the cultural experience. Those experiencing this culture may gain benefits or a adjustment to the cost of traits, features, etc. that revolve around the practices of the faith.

Cultural Institution Familiarity: Some cultures have institutions that are deeply imbedded and informs traditions, beliefs and behaviors core to the cultural experience. Those experiencing this culture may gain benefits or a adjustment to the cost of traits, features, etc. that revolve around the practices of the institutions.

Cultural Knowledge: Lores (Extensive Knowledge) Rudimentary or Accomplished (at best), Expertise in skill, and Languages

Cultural Ignorance: Lores (Extensive Knowledge); The character’s experience makes them Ignorant or Misinformed.

Toughened: The character starts play with maximum Hit Points for their initial Hit Dice.

Inspired Results: A number of Result Shifts that can upgrade a Simple Result to a Major Result. This may be applied to any proficient skill, kit, or combat attack.

Assets: equipment/simple, poverty/impoverished

Social Standing: [linked] Generally No Adjustment; this indicates the maximum and minimum levels of social class represented in the experience.

Primary Education: If the area has some sort of Education option, this is the chance that the character may have received Primary level education (usually a range on a d6 check).

Secondary Education If the area has some sort of Education option, this is the chance that the character may have received Secondary level education (usually a range on a d6 check).

Assets: Assets that the character starts with in addition to anything else. The maximum any starting character should have; must note source (family, stolen, etc.)

Backgrounds Excluded or Altered: Any Backgrounds that are either not found (Excluded) as part of the character’s experience, or altered from the normal d20 system mechanics.

Skills Excluded or Altered: Any Skills that are either not found (Excluded) as part of the character’s experience, or altered from the normal d20 system mechanics.

Traits Excluded or Altered: Any Traits that are either not found (Excluded) as part of the character’s experience, or altered from the normal d20 system mechanics.
