Fires in Town

The Distraction

The Gwinnish Forces ‘assault’ Lily Glen in the barony of Lilymarch. They go on a smash and grab, and burn several buildings and homes of fisherfolk bordering the shore. They left the Lady Nessia of Lily Glen alone, just keeping her bottled up in her tower far away. The Black Shore is a natural attack point to Crestwold and a half platoon and scouts have gone out, along with a House Malor representative to make sure the couple communities of fisherfolk on the Black Shore in Crestwold are safe and feel protected.

Next day:
Fires in Torrelsons Ford

A celebratory fire on Kite Hill got out of control. People said the flame looked like it was alive, it went up so fast.
?> This was a test.

Fire at a game house

Fire at a stash house

Fire on the docks

Fire at the White Sister’s house
?> This is to throw people off the scent.

It Gets Personal

Visit from Agent of the Baron

If the captain of the guard is dead, use Verel Blackdown, the Baron’s herald. He knows nothing of what hes supposed to be doing to organize troops.

Something needs to be done. We cannot have the arsonist hitting the White Sisters – the Baron has developed a close relationship with them. The agents of House Malor say only that the arsonist is using magic – but they don’t have the resources – They are building a warding zone to contain the restless spirits. If the White Sisters were hit, the arsonist seems to be escalating in the power of their target. Next target: House Malor? Barons Family? Find out what you can.

Baggage train attacked

in # days it would take to find it.

PCs Attacked

The next night, the PCs are attacked.

There is a wagon, where the summoning happens.

PCs Building is on fire at 2:30am, they can only grab personal items in 2 hands.
If they don’t do it right away, the fire seems to spread – way faster than it should. The PCs will have to go through a Wall of Fire equivalent. Afterwards, the fire spells out “Gallants Blows Goats” (or something similar) on an adjacent building or in the street.

The PCs can see a covered wagon moving at a great pace away.

The PCs must have a 35’ base movement rate to keep up. Or an expert streetwise sense. Either way, they can track the wagon to an abandoned building (Caarns bargain weaving supplies shop) near Kite Hill. The wagon is hitched on the side. The windows are covered up. The front door is boarded.

The front door is a concealed door (DC 20 Perception) – looks boarded but opens by moving a board.
Roof >
Building is 20’ tall. It is slightly pitched. Chance of falling through, its soft.

Front Room >
No light. Door on the far side – everything looks like its abandoned.

Weavers Room >
Broken pieces of looms pushed up against the walls. The large doors on the back are boarded shut. The roof sags. There is a lamp and table with 4 figures around it, laughing.
======
There are 12 figures in the shadows and cover – all thugs, all hired to ambush the PCs. When the PCs rush in, the four use the table as cover. The thugs rush in to surprise the PCs when they commit. The leader, Vanessa, ducks into a floor compartment (DC 20 Perception check to spot; or DC 20 Intelligence to remember to count).
12 Thugs: AC 11, HP 5, club
DC 20 Perception check to notice they are only carrying clubs.
3 Thugs “The Bandal Gang” (bait): Fighter 3; AC 11, HP: 24, longsword – they will give up before death.

After: The thugs will say they were hired by an unknown human man. They give different descriptions (its a disguise), and say that they were hired in Torrelsons Ford in various places and told to meet here tonight. What happened to the people in the wagon? There were 2 horses ready behind the building when they arrived. The passengers of the wagon strapped something large made of iron to one horse and one took the reins and rode away, the other paid us and vanished. They did not think we was watchin’ em. But my boys are always on it.

Discovering Vanessa: If she is found out, she will play her part – to lure the PCs. She is the only one who knows where the alternate meeting spot was. She gives an address on North Ridge – an affluent area.

Concealed dagger dc 17, with poison.
Rogue 4th, 20 hp, AC 13; d;17, ch:14

The Alternate Location

The home of a wealthy family, the Hoppersan’s. It is an old villa, they are known to be land owners, and have some 30 tenant farmers, and a peat mining operation.

Long Road >
Horse tracks can be seen – fresh

The Manor >
In front sits 2 horses, tethered loosely. The house is dark.

The family is at Lily Glen at a huge festival. The servants are rounded up in the dining room, and dressed in the clothing of the nobles and armed (so it appears DC 20 Perception to know something is wrong). They have been bound. They are being used as human shields.

The devil does not care, he was summoned to torch the house around them and take the PCs out.
“The Sideways Master sends his greetings, mortals!”

Brazier of commanding fire elementals – large (40 lbs.) and has 2 charges left.

The Burning Manse

The devil shouts a word in some strange tongue, and from the brazier comes a creature made of fire. It does not attack you, but goes racing out the window, setting everything ablaze as it goes.
