History

History and arrival as recorded by Sandovhal Aelishan…

Brief Background: Farold Oshman is the son of the merchant Thedric Oshman. The Oshman family is from the city of Tamblin the Grand Barony of Fandelok of the central heartlands of the realms. Farold was lost in the hills at age 7 and a mountain lion guided him back to the city in the dark and rain, to the Beastwood of Darupet outside of Tamblin and he was found by Father Havier who saw the cat and boy together. He took him home to his father and convinced him that his son was blessed by Rastur. Instead of following in his father’s footsteps, he was raised as an assistant in the Green Church for 7 more years in the territories bordering Umbak until a raid by Orrish from the Fhayl forest. Another cat vision lead him at night to a fallen soldiers sword and an attack of opportunity on a pair of goblins who had set a house on fire with the inhabitants in side. He managed to slay the pair of Orrish but was hurt bad in the process and rescued by a Knight of the Order of the Red Heart. After the raid he spent 7 years dedicated to pursuing a martial path, following his rescuer – but never leaving the path of faith that had brought him to it. Rastur’s courage has been his strength and he has patiently waited for another sign – seven, seven, and seven years of his life –he knew the next stage of his journey is soon to be revealed.

Training: The last seven years have been spent in the junior ranks of the knightly Order of the Red Heart under the tutelage of Mirren Tasselgrim – a knight from the far south. His father was much more overjoyed at sponsoring training in this valiant order, though he rarely sees him or any other family since – sacrificing his life in service to a greater good. Having got a late start, the martial training lasted for seven hard years. Advancement in rank was slowed by the division of time between the faith still served and the new brothers-in-arms order. The order’s symbol is a red heart, and arm grasping from left (top) and bottom (right) over 2 crossed spears with yellow banners. In honor of the symbol, Farold trained in spear first (the main weapon of your order), shields and sword until achieving familiarity with all of the weapons of those types available to your order – going far above the call of the page rank.

Sent by the Order: Sir Tasselgrim came and spoke briefly to say an agreement had been reached between the authorities in the order and your church. The heartlands are safe for now, and it is time for your mentor to serve in the east against the darkness – but that you will not be going with him. You must continue to serve both, but that you were going to be sent to the church for a special mission. He assured you that the interests of the order and the High King were served by this arrangement, and that the followers of the church were going to watch and report every move. Your contacts are two-fold: the clergy of the Green Church will assign you theirs, and in interest High King you are to report to the senior herald of the place where you will be sent to. The lord and his court of that place will watch and record your deeds, sending word back to the order on your progress and deeds. With this news he rose, offered his hand and exclaimed "May your heart always bleed true" (the order’s motto).

Sent by the Faith: Father Havier’s good friend Father Comron, of Bar-Innis in the Duchy of Dunstrand, has sent word that they need a strong soldier that will uphold the Green Church values and aid their local burgeoning faith of Rastur. This follower is to aid an existing devout follower in expanding the church and must serve in the roles of both symbol and community leader. Father Havier tells you that your dual disciplines of faith and the sword will be tested aplenty – that there is much going on in the fief of Bar-Innis and that not even Rastur has revealed all things to him. He does know that it seems like you are being sent into a den of wolves, but that you must be the lion. He has taught you mundane skills and knowledge of faith’s workings that normally a follower of higher rank would possess, and he apologizes for delaying for so long your pass into a higher state of grace through servitude. "You must now make your own way, but I will always be with you. Return to me when you have need of my counsel and when you feel you are ready to take the next step in your journey of faith." He presents you with his own Holy Symbol and says "With this, I will always be with you – when you from your first congregation, it will stand in my stead."

Arrival in Mev: You first report to the senior herald Djuril, the majordomo of the Earl’s court. He settles you in a modest spare barracks in the keep, where a few mercenary are billeted at the same time. After a series of interviews with the 4 heralds of the court, Djuril explains to you that you must report all actions to him first. He explains that you are to be sent to the penitent Porthis Gunther next, and that he will have much to say. You must remember that although the Green Church is active here and Porthias has done many great things, it is the Earl’s authority that is higher – the Earl is the voice of the High King and the Duke here in the county of Bar-Innis. Do not be swayed by the monstrous tales of these hooligans’. They have been lucky, and Djuril says he knows they are responsible somehow for much of the trouble they have sought out and dealt with. Beware of falling in with them whole-heartedly – he fears they serve themselves more than they do their Earl (whom they are sworn banner-men of).

Farold meets first with Porthias, younger than himself but with a hardened face that has seen much. Porthias is open and honest, trusting Farold’s status in the church, and divulges what he perceives as the true politics and intrigue of the court and situation in Bar-Innis. Much of it sounds fantastical or outrageous… Bar-Innis is on the fringes of settled lands and out of the way of any major interests. It seems ludicrous that the political maneuverings and machinations of so many interested parties could be centered here. He leaves out many details, and says that he will soon learn them from his companions.

Farold’s Conquest This is the now famous tavern, established around CY 9144. It is a hub for story telling and those who seek fine drink and eat when visiting the Companions Library at Braddon Bog in the Lowlands of the earldom of Bar-Innis. Security is overseen by the Gallantine Order, to ensure that no “loose lips” occurs from the library’s visitors. It is named after the famous member of the Brave Companions, Farold Oshman. The sign of the establishment of Farold’s Conquest is a picture of the renowned shield of the realm, Farold’s Wall.
