Liturgical Observance

Liturgical Observance is a religious form of an Avowed Pledge that indicates the characters sworn adherence to the different proscribed tenets of a faith [to a Divine Principal]. The oath to follow tenets are part of core identity of the follower and those who serve the greater glory of the Divine Principal. Followers generally try and follow them, to the best of their ability, avoiding censure and transgression. Deeper levels of observance allows characters to benefit from the effects of Divine Aptitude. A character may not possess conflicting (tenets that oppose each other) Shared Litanies if they observe multiple faiths. They may give up an embraced Litany, suffering the consequences of transgressing or abandoning their faith.

This presents a good opportunity for adding Roleplaying elements to the Character.

A litany is a divine bond based on a documented Code of Conduct that reflects the tenets of the Principal. It has the common aspects of all Shared Bonds, but is between the character and their principal. It is the most common means of assessing Attunement. The principal presence is their gateway to accessing the benefits of the bond without being known directly by all the members. At bare minimum, the litany is the prescribed processes and affirmations that are repeated to reinforce the bond and code/tenets – it applies to the entire community of Followers and/or Adherents. These have obvious supplications, entreatments, prayers and offerings as part of their veneration or active worship. They may give up an embraced Litany, suffering the consequences of Transgressing or Abandoning their principal. Once signifying their devotion, a character receives the following benefits:

General Benefits of Pledge of Observance

  • Benefits when participating in Rites using the Rituals and Ceremonies that are part of the Principal’s traditions and powers, in support of other followers or institutions.
  • Mind Above: Mind Above – The wielder targets others with Shared Litany with certain spells requiring Concentration and the focus of the Divine Principal takes the place of their Concentration (automatically making all checks until the power ends).

Observance of the tenets proscribed by a litany it is a means of assessing Rewards for roleplaying.

The assumption of institutional Litanies may also be accompanied by a Prestige Marker in acknowledgement.
